What a day on the Island looks like!

Three full days spent on Isla Nena! It has been great! We have been able to enjoy our afternoons on the beach. The rain has moved in during the late afternoons forcing us to head into town for an early dinner both days. Yesterday, was the only day that we were not able to really get out and enjoy the water. So we just went around the Island taking pictures. I will be posting those soon.

Two very happy people!

Here is our home away from home. This is Navio. I do love Ababor Suites!

A Jeep lover can't go without their Jeep! Something with 4-wheel drive is a must in these parts. We almost had to use it when trying to get out of a parking place!

I feel it is necessary to enjoy the morning coffee on the beach!

This is where I like to have my morning coffee. Wonderful and relaxing!

The great driver. He will go anywhere!

A great place to stock up on supplies.

And now you know what kind of supplies were needed!

The first afternoon was spent on Playa Plata. This was our favorite beach last year. There were a few people on the beach. I am sure it was because it was the weekend. Last year, we did not find this beach until our last day which was on Friday, and no one was on this beach!

And the rain says it's time to pack it up! It's not always sunny in paradise...

And the rain sends you to seek shelter. My view from my favorite bar stool at Duffy's.

On my favorite list of beers. This is brewed by Old Harbor Brewery in San Juan. They have a nice brewery/brew pub in Old San Juan. We did visit it last year.

Heaven...We are here...

So excited to be sitting in our little piece of heavan. We have been here long enough to realize that Air Tran has re-defined the term gate-check, find the entire SEC Conferenece in the bottom of the San Juan Airport, have an adventure in picking up the rental Jeep, make new friends (imagine that!), find standing water in Navio that requires Jason to clean it up...find the problem...and fix it..., people saying that we as a family need to be quoted with our expressions, and end up at Duffy's two extremely happy people! Love hearing the waves as I type...

Jason should be quoted with his reply to the leak at Navio...Lionel said,"...happens!" Jason said, "Let's be honest we both know SHIT HAPPENS. SHIT just follows me!!!" Jason then offerred him a Medalla. Love, love Vieques!

So Summer Has Arrived!

That's right and no better way to start it than with a trip to see Kenny Chesney! It was awesome! One of the best concerts I have seen!

And today marks the week count down to Vieques! I am so ready to get lost in my thoughts on a beach!!!!

Progress on a Favorite Project

So the patio has been cut away from the house. We have some big changes coming to the yard! I have been planning this one for a long time. I cannot wait to see how it turns out!

Oh my, my to-do list!

So I was just looking at my to-do list that I put to paper last week. It is just a quick jot list of items that I wanted to accomplish last weekend. I just discovered that of the 9 items listed - I only accomplished 2 of them! So sad, and they were not even big items! I have got to do something about this!

On another note, the plum tree is covered in plums and little grapes have appeared on the muscadines! So here we come summer ready or not!

We met another neighbor in the hood last night while we were walking around the yard. I love our little Burgess community!

Weekend Yet?

Oh, I am so ready for the weekend! It seems that I live for the weekends more and more. So sad I know! The projects around the house just keep mounting up higher and higher. At least it keeps a person busy.

I am trying to think of my list of things that I want to accomplish this weekend. I need to start putting these to paper. Maybe then I will actually complete them!

What a weekend!

This was a busy one. And as I said on the book yesterday, "Two full days spent in the sunshine does wonders for the soul!" So very true! I do love me some sunshine.

I have developed a new love for spring. It is so exciting to see things bud and leaf out. I have really been watching our fruit trees and muscadines. They are really trying their best to put out for the season.

The seedlings are doing their thing as well. I started more seeds this weekend. Mostly tomatoes, corn, beans, and soybeans. I have a few more things to start, but I need to do some thinking as to space. I have run out! So I have my clean up work cut out for me this week. There are 7 varieties of tomatoes started! Oh yea, have I said before that I love tomatoes?

Maybe I will have one that looks this good!

Busy Weekend! Project FILLED WEEKEND!

Well this weekend was filled with many projects and lots of rain. The rain forced Jason and I both to do inside projects. His will have a lot more instant enjoyment from it than mine! He made 10 gallons of Coffee Stout...while I worked in the junk room/future den. I will be so glad when it is finally a den!

Sunday was outside work all day! Rain sure can produce cabin fever in me. I was so ready to get outside. The first garden was started. It has onions, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and two different types of lettuce. I was also excited to see that one of my zinnias that I started from seed had sprouted. That is such a rewarding thought to see something that you have been caring for to come from the blank, dark soil. At least, I think it is!

Then we worked to clean up the muscadines. Those poor things needed some attention. They were being crowded out by jasmine and honeysuckle. They had not been touched in a very long time. I told Jason that they probably were having a sigh of relief. I hope that we will have more production from them this year!

Pictures to follow soon!

Vieques in the top 10

Vieques was recently named one of the top 10 islands that you should see before you die. I couldn't agree with them more! As I said during lunch, I couldn't think of any other one that I would want to see. I am so ready for vacation time!

Hello February!

I have to say I can not believe that February is here. Seems just like yesterday, we were enjoying a white Christmas.

Needless to say, I am enjoying sitting by the fire on this cold evening, thinking of all our friends in Chicago that are currently buried in the snow, and thinking of Vieques!

Catch up session!

So I read a blog today that really inspired me! I realized that my blog entries had been to few and far between. I started this little thing to use as a creative outlet and to try and overcome the hatred of writing. I love to read, but I hate to write with a passion!

I know that is a terrible thing to say, but it has been that way for me my entire life. So now is the time to make a change!

Let's do a little catching up from the last blog entry!

Vieques 2010 was the best! It was such a wonderful vacation. (Sorry Jeff and Francie - it was terrible not having your wonderful company.) It was wonderful in the fact of the beauty of the Island, the laid back Caribbean time (has to be one of my all-time favorite things about the island), and the CRAFT BEER AT DUFFY'S!!!!! You got that right! We were able to have great beer and coffee during our entire vacation! It was awesome.
After Vieques, we had the purchase of the new house to finish up. The house has been an adventure! I do love it! It is hard to decide if you want to work outside or inside. We have done some work. At times it feels like we have done nothing and other times it feels like we have done tons. The major change has been the kitchen!

This is the front view of the house before we finalized the purchase.

The next two pictures are of the kitchen before we finalized the purchase.

Get READY!!! You are about to see some MAJOR CHANGES!

This picture was taken on the day of the install...I just love the new cabinets!

This is a close up view of the refrigerator surround. The detail is just outstanding. Is it wrong to be in love with your cabinet maker and your appliances?

And these are directly across from the cabinets pictured above. The drawers are wonderful! They fully extend out. Jason and I both think that these are a much better use of space. (Our other kitchen had cabinets underneath. The house before that did not even have this kind of space...we are a learn as you go kind of couple!)

More to come on this subject...we have a long way to go!
This past fall had to be one of the WORST football seasons for the Rebels in awhile! At least in my book it was terrible. I am a Rebel and will be until the day I die! I bleed RED AND BLUE! And I can always party with the best of them...win or lose!
Thanksgiving and Christmas were great! Christmas was the best! We finally got that white Christmas! I finally got the Kindle, and I was not even brave enough to ask for it! I have secretly wanted one since they first came out. I had a hard time getting over the fact of the price and what could this do to the book as we have known it. Well let me just say, I truly love the fact that I can have ALL of the books with me at all times that I am currently reading. I am a reader that can have as many as 5 books going at one time. (That might be a habit that I received from Mamaw. Considering she taught me to read, I probably picked up her reading habit as well!) I just can get so bogged down with reading one story that I need something totally different to read for a moment.
This is what we woke up to on Christmas Day!

We were not the only ones that were excited by a White Christmas! Holly showing you how DMc does it!

Then the snow really came down! We had at least seven inches in Burgess! I thought our little place was beautiful....it was beyond words...
The first snow of 2011!
The outcome of the snow fall!

What a beautiful winter wonderland...

I know I have said it before, but I will be a better blogger! See you tomorrow!
